Bede BD-4C Build Log

April 4, 2021 – progress building the cockpit half of the fuselage

Short video about cockpit build progress

April 7, 2021 – One of the gussets that supports the bottom front corner of the door snapped when I was bending it into shape so I had to build a new one. Luckily it snapped cleanly and I could trace an exact copy.

April 8, 2021 – Finally reached the point where I need to rivet some parts. The toolkit I ordered from Brown Tool is arriving tomorrow so I spent the time I would have spent building just priming more parts. One thing that took a bit of time to figure out is that the front door supports have a tab that needs to be bent back about 45 degrees to hug the big C-channel that mounts against the similarly sized angles, or it won’t slide into place. You have to look at the drawings really close. I’ll take a picture tomorrow. I should also mention you’ll want to order your tools way ahead of time. It could have been COVID slowdowns or just bad timing but it took about a month and a half for them to arrive, so if you’re planning to build and you’re like me that had tools but none of the specific tools and plan to get a toolkit, order your kit well ahead of when you expect to start. This worked out perfectly for me with the tools I need arriving the day after I needed them but it was just dumb luck. I plan on doing a short inventory of the kit in an upcoming video.
